The Columbian College Office of Technology Services is hiring student employees for the Fall 2014 semester!

While at OTS, you will gain experience supporting advanced A/V systems, specialized software in support of the College's research and academic initiatives, as well as industry-standard enterprise IT resources including file and print sharing using Microsoft Active Directory and virtual applications delivered through Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop.

We are currently only seeking students that have received a Federal Work-Study award.

OTS Student Technology Specialist

Salary Range: $10 - $15 hourly

Desired Start Date: September 2, 2014

Approximate Hours Per Week: Up to 20

Position Type: Part-Time Job (less than 40 hours per week), GW On-Campus FWS or On-Campus Not-FWS

Position Functions: Administrative, Information Systems, Technical Support

Job Summary: This is a customer service job, and as such, we are looking for friendly people with effective communication skills.  Responsibilities include:

- Answering Help Desk phone calls, and documenting issues using ServiceNow IT Service Management software
- Transporting, installing, and testing computer hardware, software, and peripherals on the GW campus
- Troubleshooting technical issues via phone and email, in addition to making on-site visits
- Updating users on the status of their tickets
- General office support, including organizing equipment and filing paperwork
- Other duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications:

- Federal Work-Study Award Recipient
- Excellent communication skills and a professional, customer service oriented attitude
- Computer and technical support experience
- High level of organization and dependability
- Familiarity with Windows XP, Windows 7, and MS Office products
- Familiarity with Mac OS X Operating system
- Legally authorized to work in the United States and will NOT now or in the future require employer sponsorship for employment authorization. (i.e. H-1B)
- Ability to lift at least 35lbs 

Desired Qualifications:

- Previous experience in customer service, especially in the technical field
- Availability for shifts at least 2 hours long, minimum of 10 hours a week

Columbian College Student Web Developer

Salary Range: $10 - $15 hourly

Position Functions: Administrative, Information Systems, Software Development, Technical Support, Web Design/Maintenance, Writing/Editing

Environment Background: The Columbian College Communications Team provides marketing and communications services to support the faculty and staff of GW’s Arts and Sciences College. Columbian College is seeking an energetic, organized, and computer-savvy individual to support the daily operations of the office, primarily web operations. Columbian uses GW’s Drupal 7 web and database infrastructure to support its external marketing web presence and internal research and business applications. The College also hosts several internal Wikis, research databases, and a small financial tracking application built using Python/Django and MySQL. We are recruiting for web developers to assist in migration of websites and in the maintenance and operations of our other web services.

Job Summary: This is a customer service job, and as such, we are looking for friendly people with effective communication skills. The candidate should have a strong background in web site design and development. This background must include the ability to address HTML and scripting compatibility issues between different browsers. While graphic design skills are not required, the ability to implement and manipulate CSS files would be helpful. Responsibilities include:

- Front-end web tasks (basic HTML, web editing)
- Ensure that the layout of the content is accessible and logical; recommend improvements as necessary
- Create visual concepts that match GW's image; ensure that content is easy to navigate.
- Migration of content from both Drupal and non-Drupal websites to the University Drupal 7 CMS platform
- Checking email and voicemail
- Answering Web phone calls, and documenting issues using Mantis Help Desk issue tracking software
- Updating users on the status of their requests
- General office support, including organizing equipment and filing paperwork
- Other duties as assigned
 

Minimum Qualifications:

- Computer and technical support experience

- Familiarity with Drupal CMS

- Experience juggling multiple priorities in a fast paced environment
- Knowledge of JavaScript

- Advanced knowledge of digital imaging using Adobe Photoshop or other digital editing tools
- Experience with PHP
- Availability for shifts at least 2 hours long, minimum of 15 hours a week
- Federal Work Study recipient

SMPA Distribution Staff Support

Job Summary: The School of Media and Public Affairs (SMPA) Distribution Office manages the checkout of technical equipment for student projects. SMPA Distribution is seeking friendly and organized individuals to support daily operations of the office. Staff Support employees sit on the fifth floor of the Media and Public Affairs building at the front desk. They field questions over the phone and in person and check equipment in and out using proper procedures. While at SMPA Distribution, you will gain valuable customer service experience along with the basic operation of a professional HD video camera. 

Minimum Qualifications:

- Federal Work-Study Award Recipient
- Excellent communication skills and a professional, customer service oriented attitude
- High level of organization and dependability
- Legally authorized to work in the United States and will NOT now or in the future require employer sponsorship for employment authorization. (i.e. H-1B)
